STRAITJACKETS Straitjackets In Concert DVD
The
Los Straitjackets have made a career out of being one of the most dynamic and
skillful instrumental bands on the planet. Their renowned live show is filled
with mind-bending guitar theatrics, group choreography and fuzzed-out experiments
in high fidelity rock n roll showmanship. On their new DVD, In Concert, the luchadores
of rock document a 2005 gig at San Francisco s historic Great American Music Hall.
The set abounds with original tracks and signature far out covers (''My Heart
Will Go On'') done as only the Straitjackets can do them. The spellbinding shows
are captured in Dolby 5.1 surround sound and crystal clear video resulting in
a vintage snapshot of the band in lean, mean musical form. Complete with kitschy
cool intro sequences produced by the band, In Concert is the quintessential document
of the Los Straitjackets live experience. In Concert will also be available on
12 inch vinyl, complete with an alternate track listing and songs not available
on the DVD version. (Yep Roc) MORE

EARLE Live At Austin Texas November 12, 2000
When
Steve Earle stepped onto the Austin City Limits stage on November 12, 2000, it
had been 14 years since his first appearance in 1986. In between it must have
seemed like he had lived several lifetimes. A bout with drug addiction sidetracked
him in the early 90's, but by 1994 he was recovered and more ornery and prolific
than ever. In fact, in the years since, he released five albums, including his
latest at the time of this recording, Transcendental Blues. Of the record, Rolling
Stone wrote, These songs weave threads that bind Ireland and the American south,
rockabilly and the Beatles, folk music and muscular rock and roll. (track

DIFRANCO Live At Babeville DVD
On
September 11 and 12, 2007, singer/songwriter/guitarist Ani DiFranco played two
sold-out shows before a hometown audience in Buffalo, New York. What made those
nights so special wasn't just the music--because that's always special at an Ani
show--but the fact that she was playing the inaugural shows in her very own venue,
a downtown church once slated for demolition that has been beautifully restored
as a state-of-the-art music hall and newly renamed "Babeville." Ani
took the opportunity to fashion a two-night retrospective of sorts, performing
songs from every stage of her fabled career in breathtaking new arrangements with
her latest touring band; Allison Miller on drums, Todd Sickafoose on upright bass
and Mike Dillon on vibes and percussion. The spirit of celebration was in the
air, and energy in the room--both onstage and in the audience--was extraordinary.
Six
cameras were on hand to capture the excitement in high definition video and 5.1
surround sound, and now the highlights of the two shows are available on a single
DVD featuring eighteen songs (two of which have not yet appeared on her studio
albums), plus interview and sound check footage. The result is both a must-have
memento for fans and an ideal intro to Ani at her finest--onstage, playing her
guitar and singing with all the passion, intensity, and joy that have made her
a legend. (Righteous Babe) MORE

excerpts of two performances (Dingwalls in London, Nelsons in Wimbledon) from
1980, the heyday of this wonderful group. These historical audio/visual recordings
have been restored from existing source tapes. The Inmates were formed in North
London in 1977 and soon established themselves as one of the capital's most popular
live groups. Their influences included The Animals, The Pretty Thing and The Rolling
Stones. They arrived at the tail end of the pub-rock movement, but still managed
to find success with their mix of originals and covers of classic R&B and
Rock & Roll tunes. Of the latter, a version of the Standells' "Dirty
Water," included on the band's 1979 debut First Offence, became a hit on
both sides of the Atlantic (reaching #51 on The Billboard Hot 100). Capitalizing
on chart success throughout Europe & North America, the early eighties saw
the band confirm their international status. They continue to tour successfully
throughout Europe. This DVD serves as an important document of the Inmates and
their contributions to Rock n Roll. MORE

was a year of extraordinary tragedy, triumph, and transformation. The assassinations
of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy failed to halt the juggernaut
of the Civil Rights Movement. Richard Nixon was elected President following riots
at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. As rockets rained down on fighting
men in Vietnam, a NASA rocket carried men into lunar orbit. From music to politics
to issues of feminism, race, and war, 1968 left almost no facet of American life
unchanged. Now, legendary award-winning journalist and best-selling author Tom

CHRIS
SMITHER One More Night With Chris Smither DVD
On a late spring evening in 2007, Chris Smither performed two concerts for an
intimate audience in Lyme, Connecticut. Footage from these shows plus excerpts
from a rare concert Chris performed with a full band at The Somerville Theatre
in Boston in 2006 are brought together in this first-ever concert video from Smither.
The DVD captures Chris performing in his usual solo style, with feet mic'd for
percussion, from the Lyme concerts, and backed up marvelously by multi-instrumentalist
David Goodrich, drummer Mike Piehl, mandolinist Sean Staples, vocalist Anita Suhanin,
and bassist Lou Ulrich in Somerville. The concert footage is enhanced with a never-before
released personal interview, providing the viewer with additional insight into
Chris' performance techniques and influences. Honing a synthesis of folk and blues
for more than 40 years, Chris Smither is truly an American original. His music
draws deeply from blues and American folk music, modern poets and humanist philosophers.
A profound songwriter, a blistering guitarist and, as he puts it, a "one-man
band to the bone," Chris melds the styles of his two major influences, Lightnin'
