Literate rocker Richard Thompson's new album, Sweet Warrior, is a return to his
classic electric sound, his first plugged-in album since 2003's The Old Kit Bag.
Filled with 14 songs of stories of loss and betrayal, the album also holds one
of Thompson's most overtly political songs to date, "Dad's Gonna Kill Me,"
told from the perspective of a nervous young soldier stationed in Baghdad (abbreviated
as "Dad" in the song). Richard Thompson is a consummate singer, songwriter,
and guitarist. His career stretches back to the late '60s, when he was a founding
member of the British folk-rock Fairport Convention. In the late '70s, with his
then-wife, Linda, he recorded Shoot Out the Lights, which regularly makes critics'
lists of the top ten records of all time. In the '90s, he experienced another
career renaissance with the album Rumor & Sigh and he remains an elder-statesman

Adrienne Young has delved deep into the collective soul to find inspiration for
her new cd, 'Room To Grow'. True to her post-modern blending of country, folk,
pop and bluegrass woven throughout her first two cds, this sustainable agriculture
champion dons modern spectacles through which to view timeless questions, choosing
traditional instruments to communicate her contemporary compositions, joining
forces with uber rockers Mike Gordon and Will Kimbrough, among others.(Addie Belle)
Diana Jones brings a deeply poetic lyric to the fore of each of her smartly composed
country-folk tunes on My Remembrance Of You, the debut release for NewSong Recordings,
whose Mountain Stage broadcasts and festivals have been a key proving ground for
Jones. Strong Tennessee roots can be heard in her voice and at the core of her
writing too; her captivating and mature tone has a timeless quality yet bears
contemporary sophistication in its melody. Love, loss and hope are time-honored
themes which take on new depth from Jones' literate perspective. Providing her
own accompaniment on acoustic guitar, she casts doleful and delicate tunes with
humbling honesty, backed lightly with some fiddle, mandolin, spare drums and electric

Scarred,
Napolitano's staggering new solo album, finds the artist in an unconstrained,
more cinematic phase of an already rich career. Living under Joshua Tree's endless

Sittin' In A Tree..., Hatfield takes her distinctive, melodic voice and comes
together with alt-country newcomers Frank Smith ("Boston's answer to the
Band or Magnolia Electric Co." - The Boston Phoenix). Frank Smith, with their
rootsy, bluesy, country rock bring Hatfield into territory she has never explored
before. Banjos, pedal steel, and alternately rollicking and noir-ish guitars and
keyboards blend and bounce off each other in this eclectic 6-song collection.

Frank
Smith is a band, not a man, and features former members of the Lot Six and Eyes
Like Knives. They have a sound that is as vast as America. Like the country they
come from, they reconcile countless would-be opposites as songs from the back
porch country are driven straight into the noise of the city, simple folk tunes
are given the most intricately complex arrangements, and the freedom of the music
is constantly pulled back by the authority of the beat. All of this is masked
by American deadpan at its finest in lyrics that are too simple to be simple.(Ye

Taking
elements of slowcore, alt.country and chamber pop, the music of Canadian songwriter
Barzin is evocative on many levels. The 'Just More Drugs' EP contains the track

This
double-CD best-of displays the Texas singer Ray Price at his early best. By the
mid-1960s, Price had radically altered his approach, adopting a countrypolitan
ballad style of singing, and leaving behind his honky-tonk roots, including his
nasal, Hank Williams-influenced vocal style. However, Essential Ray Price presents
the country legend in his exciting honky-tonk years, making the music that would
later be embraced so widely by country music's 1980s New Traditionalists. Backed
by Hank Williams's Drifting Cowboys, Price excels on classics such as "The
Road of No Return," "Heartaches By the Number," and "Talk
to Your Heart." Though Williams's influence is evident throughout, cuts such
as "The Same Old Me" show the beginnings of Price's unique, innovative

In
the popular music of Wales, Meic Stevens is the defining folk and rock singer
of the past 40 years. He is as important there as Bob Dylan in the United States,
John Lennon in England, Caetano Veloso in Brazil and Serge Gainsbourg in France.
Outlander, his sole English language release, came out in 1970 in the UK, and
has never been widely available in the States until now. A diverse mix of folk,
psych, and rock with a distinct Welsh flavor, Outlander has long been a sought
after collector's item. Stevens' recordings have been a noted influence on such
contemporary Welsh groups as Super Furry Animals and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci. (Water)

Fancy is Les' first live concert DVD and shows his latest band at its peak performance.
With long time associates Skerik on sax and Mike Dillon on vibes, marimba and
percussion (both of Garage a Trois and Critters' Buggin), the band is rounded
out by Cake drummer Paulo Baldi and multi-instrumentalist Gabby La La. Fancy was
assembled using footage shot by a small group of devoted fans over the course
of several performances. The audio is a combination of board tapes blended with
audience or "tapers" recordings to give the piece the true "fan's
