Time Out called The Felice Brothers, "Scruffy and scratched Americana that
recalls Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark and early Springsteen." Add to that an
authentic dust-bowl sensibility and you begin to get the feel for this band of
brothers. Effortlessly, the Felice Brothers capture the spirit of The Band working
out in the basement with Dylan. Drowned in Sound magazine captured it best when
they said, "Tonight At The Arizona documents the reality of happy endings
not being one of life's guarantees. From teenage pregnancies and the study of
your firearm as you contemplate suicide, to being arrested for the drugs you were
dealing to pay for your mother's medical bills, the gritty contents are delivered

group choruses liberated from hick bars and films set in the Deep South."

Produced by the incredible Colin Linden, it features fourteen songs penned by
three of Canada's finest songwriters Stephen Fearing, Colin Linden and Tom Wilson
with some outstanding collaborations. Lending impeccable support on the sessions
are long time collaborators Richard Bell (keyboards) John Dymond (bass) and Gary
Craig (drums). Special guests include Garth Hudson (The Band) Pam Tillis, Malcolm
Burn, Wayne Jackson (The Memphis Horns), Daniel Lanois and John Whynot. Long time
friend and fan Daniel Lanois wrote a beautiful track entitled House of Soul with
the stipulation that they had to make him cry in order to have it. He loved it
and it is track number two. (True North) 
The CD was produced by Lloyd Maines, recorded at The Zone Studio in Dripping Springs
and mastered at Terra Nova Digital Audio. The album includes six tracks by Wilkins,
two by band members, and three covers by the likes of The Band, Davis Raines,
Ray Stephenson & Bob Dipiero. Live performances are already drawing comparisons
to The Eagles, but the band also reflects influences such as Poco, The Lost Gonzo
Band, and Crosby, Stills & Nash. Joining Wilkins on acoustic guitar are Bill
Small on bass, percussion and acoustic guitar; John M. Greenberg and Marcus Eldridge
on electric guitars; and Ramon Rodriguez on drums and percussion. All five are
singers, four are songwriters and each has made his own records. Maines also contributed
turns on steel guitar, baritone guitar, acoustic high-string guitar and mandolin.

Like the Flying Burrito Brothers with hips, like Van Morrison letting loose with
some back-street white-boy soul shouting, The Basement embody the best from the
past while thrusting it into the present. The spirit and intensity of Dylan's
late 60's period with The Band is ever present in this debut from one of Ireland's
most exciting young new bands. From the jangly foot-stomping romp of "Medicine
Day" to the bittersweet lament of "It's A Kinda Love" to the twangy
raucousness of "Do You Think You're Movin' On", 'Illicit Hugs and Playground
Thugs' is a crafted debut that already sounds like a living and breathing classic.
Vanderslice recorded this album in the midst of anguishing legal limbo after a
visa application for his French girlfriend was rejected by US immigration. The
album takes its title from a reference to the "Green Zone" in Iraq,
but its themes are broad. "John Vanderslice is starting to look like the
most consistently engaging singer and songwriter - and maybe even live performer
- on indie rockdom's current landscape" - Washington Post. (Barsuk)
The Pigeons Couldn't Sleep's 13 tracks range from blistering and bluesy house-shakers
to ballads of tender urgency. The album begins with a haunted slide-guitar passage
by Himmelman (whose guitar prowess shouldn't be underestimated) and ends with
the gospel tinged "If We Could Hold Each Other's Hunger," about the
power of empathy. In between, Himmelman proffers such powerful songs as "Gratitude,"
"War of Words" and "The Ship of Last Hope." The songs on this
self-produced album started as sketches, which Himmelman developed until they
were "finished paintings." He was joined by Willie Aron (Victoria Williams,
Balancing Act) on vocals; Brett Simons (Fiona Apple, Liz Phair), bass; Jeff Babko
("Jimmy Kimmel Live", James Taylor), keyboards; George Shelby (Brian
Setzer), saxophones; Jimmy Englund (Hindu Rodeo), drums, Lee Jaffee (Bob Marley,
Peter Tosh), harmonica, and Israeli musician Daniel K. Man on piano and Hammond
B3. The CD comes bundled with a DVD, a feature-length documentary, Rock God. The
65-minute film begins in the '70s with footage of Himmelman's notorious Minnesota
new wave band, Sussman Lawrence. (Himmasongs) 
Tracy Nelson, best known as a blues belter, revisits country music, musical territory
she first explored at the end of the '60s with her band Mother Earth. This is
collection of some of her her favorite songs along with an original co-written
with Guy Clark and Alice Newman Vestal. They range from staples of her live show
to songs she grew up loving. The original or earlier hit versions of these songs
cover Ella Fitzgerald, Jim Reeves, Don Gibson, Lynn Anderson, The Browns, The

From his most recent sold out tour of Japan, this release features some of Setzer's
most searing guitar work to date. Includes his biggest hits ("Rock This Town",
"Stray Cat Strut", and more) alongside songs from his recent "Rockabilly
Riot" and "13", all with a new energy that could only be captured
in a live setting among his most rabid fans in the world. Adding a piano player
and second guitarist to the line-up presented an opportunity to take some of his
Stray Cats classics and solo hits into fresh territory. A must have for any Setzer

No one ever said being humble is a bad thing. It's certainly not bad in the case
of Will Stratton, because he really doesn't seem to comprehend the reaches of
his musicianship. Not only does Will have talent, but he has manners, modesty,
compassion, and optimism - characteristics rarely found in young musicians. Will's
personality is absolutely demonstrated in his debut album. The music on What The
Night Said ... is gentle but intense. Will has the uncanny ability to compose
intricate songs that speak to the listener in such an effortless and beautiful
way that he makes songwriting seem easy. The tone of the album reflects the contradictions
of peace and uneasiness during the dark hours.
Recorded over the course of five hot Texan nights in July 1973, this classic live
album captures the legendary singer/songwriter at his career peak. Townes Van
Zandt performs the best of his early songs for an appreciative audience in the
intimate surroundings of 'The Old Quarter' in his home state. The songs are interspersed
with his inimitable song introductions, jokes and general banter with the audience.
Such low-key appearances always brought out the best in Van Zandt and this marvellous
26-song collection remains as one of his most accessible albums in terms of introducing

To A Friend and Did You Think I Was Gone? Is being re-issued. To A Friend , recorded
in 2005, is best described as an ambient-prog-roots-pop-soul statement in the
truest shades of blue. The entire 46-minute program is absolutely flowing in its
musical elegance and emotional integrity. Did You Think I Was Gone ? , was recorded
in 2006 by Scotty Harding (Medeski, Martin & Wood, DJ Logic, etc) kicks it
up a notch and burns on the surface of an altogether hotter planet. It is by turns,

Instrumental from start to finish, The Horseshoe Curve showcases Anastasio's Afro-Cuban-influenced
compositions, replete with five-part horn arrangements, tight breaks, multiple
percussionists, and of course, Anastasio's soulful, nimble guitar work. The Horseshoe
Curve is a journey, an inventive exploration of the big band funk that Anastasio
has been steeped in for the larger part of the decade.(Red Ink)
Co-produced by the twins and Death Cab for Cutie's musical renaissance man Chris
Walla in Walla's Portland, OR recording studio, also features another Death Cab
drummer Jason McGerr and four-string rhythms from AFI bassist Hunter Burgan and

"The Freed Man" was one of the first and most crucial releases in the
burgeoning lo-fi movement, which would peak in media attention in the mid-90s
with the success of Beck, Guided By Voices, and Pavement. But while it helped
inspire and define a global movement, there's little trace of that ambition within
these tracks. Sebadoh in this incarnation are a cherishably intimate experience.
The 70-odd minutes of wayward brilliance collected here offer the listener a rare
and recommended opportunity to transport themselves to the weed-hazed bedroom
where these scraps, songs, and pranks were recorded, to imbibe deeply of the haywire
creativity that went on in these sessions. This deluxe edition re-issue has been
re-mastered and includes a whopping 52 tracks on a single disc, including many

Bert Susanka, founder of The Ziggens, has always wanted to put out a solo record-an
album on which he could express himself freely, without songwriting restrictions
and deadlines. So, Cornerstone RAS gave him that opportunity, and he did not disappoint.
This is clearly Susanka's most personal album to date, with songs of triumph,
heartbreak, and all emotions in between. The Ziggens enjoyed floating the crafty
moniker "cowpunk surfabilly" that was once slapped on them, and Susanka's
songs still reflect this genre-bending playfulness. But, they also capture a more
decisively crafted production that is a reflection of his own sensibilities, without
the four-headed Ziggens monster he enjoyed writing hundreds of songs with over
the past few decades. Reference points from the Dead Milkmen and Beach Boys lead
to tender introspective ballads and self-deprecating takes on suburban survival,
alling add up to what will certainly be a widely talked-about album-one that has

In 2006, the band self-released an EP every month of the year. Fifty-eight songs

Jaffe salvaged master tracks of early Preservation Hall Jazz Band recordings,

collaborative co-production between Allan Jaffe (1936-1987) and his son Benjamin

The culmination of this journey is Zion Crossroads, Harris' debut recording on
Telarc. Inspired and informed by his travels to various parts of Africa over the
past decade, the album captures some of the most enduring elements of African-American
music - blues, reggae, soul and so much more - and infuses them with a sense of
history, social consciousness and spirituality. Harris gets help on the path to
Zion Crossroads from producer Michael G, the guitarist and co-founder of Easy
Star All-Stars, the New York-based reggae collective that crafted Dub Side of

Between 1955 and 1958, Terry recorded exemplary hillbilly and country, and even

Almost a decade in the making, "Into The Afterlife"is a natural sequel
to the acclaimed box set "Zombie Heaven", this compilation is essentially
"what they did next". The Zombies split in April 1968 upon the completion
of their masterwork "Odessey & Oracle". Songwriters Rod Argent and
Chris White busied themselves forming a production company, whilst the other band
members, including lead singer Colin Blunstone, depressed by the lack of recognition
for "Odessey", retreated back to 'civvy street'. As a special bonus,
the disc contains special mixes of Zombies material that showcase the orchestral
overdubs that were added for their aborted RIP project, plus a rare vintage live
cut. Over half of "Into The Afterlife's" contents is unissued, and indeed,
ninety percent has never appeared on CD before. Add to that detailed notes that
clarifies this murky yet fascinating period in the group's history and this becomes
a worthy addition to the perfectly-formed discography of the Zombies.(Big Beat)
